{"id":24,"date":"2020-03-25T03:50:01","date_gmt":"2020-03-25T03:50:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/balsfjord.bluebellnursery.com\/?page_id=24"},"modified":"2022-05-17T14:32:30","modified_gmt":"2022-05-17T14:32:30","slug":"local-facilities","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.balsfjord.co.uk\/?page_id=24","title":{"rendered":"Local Facilities"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Three miles north of Inverkirkaig is <strong>Lochinver<\/strong>, which has excellent facilities for such a small town. <br><br>These include two small supermarkets, a cash machine, butcher, newsagent, a petrol station (closed on Sundays in winter), a mountaineering shop, post office and the excellent pie shop, Lochinver Larder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> There is also a chandlery with a wide range of goods,\nincluding waterproofs, fishing tackle, etc and the Assynt Health Center which\nboasts 2 doctors for a population of under a thousand!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> In Inverkirkaig itself is a public telephone box (50m away from cabin). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are many restaurants in the area,\nsome open from Easter till early October, others throughout the year. The best include:\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Lochinver Larder (award winning savory and dessert pies)<\/li><li>Albannach Hotel <\/li><li>Summer Isles Hotel (just voted into the top 10 UK seafood restaurants in the Times &#8211; and worth it!)<\/li><li>Handa Island Sea Food Cafe (delightful, inexpensive seafood)<\/li><li>Kylesku Hotel (local seafood in beautiful location)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Forty minutes to the south is the largest local town, <strong> Ullapool<\/strong> which boasts\nmore extensive facilities, including a Tesco supermarket and many\nshops, a museum, pottery, leisure center and port (with a direct ferry link to Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\n Sea Forth fish and chips in Ullapool is a recent winner of &#8216;Best \nTakeaway in Britain&#8217;, and one of our favourites.
